Warriors Fall to the No. 16 Falcons

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. Junior Maureen Heagy (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) posted her fourth hat trick of the season to lead Lycoming, but 16th-ranked Messiah was able to post a 17-5 decision in Commonwealth action on Wednesday, April 3, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

The Warriors (3-6 overall, 0-2 Commonwealth) got on the board first, as sophomore Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) scored just 70 seconds into the game.

After a Messiah goal just over a minute later, Heagy dropped in the first of her three goals with 22:24 left, giving Lycoming a 2-1 lead. However, Messiah (5-4 overall, 2-0 Commonwealth) scored the next nine goals to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Heagy closed the gap to seven goals with her second tally and she added a third with 20:31 left to make it 12-4, but the Falcons notched the next five goals. Junior Sarah Quigley (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) notched a goal with 19 seconds left to round out the scoring.

Senior Brooke Strausser (Myerstown, Pa./Conrad Weiser Area) notched four ground balls and five draw controls and freshman Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) notched four ground balls, as Lycoming picked up 26 in the game.

Lizzy Keeney led the Falcons with five goals, an assist, 11 draw controls, four ground balls and two draw controls. Cecilia Kjellman added three goals and Gabrielle Hamelryck added three goals and four assists. Kiersten McGreer added two goals and three assists and Emily Mumford added six ground balls.

In net, Messiah keeper Taylor Phillips notched 11 saves and Lycoming senior Lauren Reitnouer (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) stopped eight.

The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, April 6, when they face Albright in a Commonwealth Conference game at 1:00 p.m.
