No. 5 Bullets Shoot Down Dickinson in Centennial Action

(Carlisle, Pa.) Dickinson had a tough outing against #5-ranked Gettysburg on Wednesday night, falling to the Bullets, 17-3.

The Red Devils came out strong, taking a 3-1 lead in the opening nine minutes of the contest. Sophomore Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) put the Devils on the board off an assist from classmate Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) at the 28:33 mark.

She answered a goal by Amanda Borucki with an assist to Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and another goal to put Dickinson in front, 3-1, with 21:34 to play in the first half.

Gettysburg took control of the contest, keeping the Devils off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest. Bridget Kenny started the run with back-to-back goals before Kelsey Markiewicz tallied five straight.

Kenny closed out the half with another score to give the Bullets an 8-3 advantage at halftime. Gettysburg tallied nine after the break for the final of 17-3.

The visitors were dominant on the draw as well, claiming 18 of 22 on the day. Kenny led the way with a game high nine to go with six goals and one assist. Markiewicz finished with four goals and three draws on the day while first-year goaltender Lindsay Clinton made five saves to earn the win.

Dawson had a stick in all three Devil goals, scoring twice and handing out an assist. First-year Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) controlled three draws while Grace Morelli (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) each recorded four saves on the day.

Gettysburg improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-4 and 2-1 in the CC. Dickinson is home again on Saturday, hosting Haverford College at 3:00 pm.

CARLISLE, Pa. Sophomore Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) tossed in a career-high six goals and the defense held host Dickinson without a goal over the final 51 minutes as fifth-ranked Gettysburg raced past the Red Devils 17-3 in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday night.

Gettysburg (9-1, 3-0 CC) trailed 3-1 as Ali Dawson turned in two goals and assisted on another for Dickinson (6-4, 2-1 CC). The Bullets powered their way past the hosts as Kenny and junior Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.) combined for the next eight goals. Kenny went back-to-back before Markiewicz went on a four-goal spree. The sophomore capped the opening period with a goal to give the visitors an 8-3 edge.

The Bullets dominated possession of the ball in the final stanza, winning 8 of 9 draw controls and holding Dickinson to just five shots. Kenny added three more goals in the final period with her final tally of the game giving Gettysburg a 14-3 lead with 8:11 left.

Gettysburg finished with an 18-4 advantage in the draw circle, while also out-shooting the hosts 32-13.

Kenny added an assist for a career-high seven points. She also led Gettysburg with six draw controls. Markiewicz finished with four goals and three draw controls, while freshmen Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) and Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) each posted a goal and two assists.

Freshman goalie Lindsay Clinton (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) posted five saves for the Bullets. Seniors Kat Nestor (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Hayward Sawers (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) each corralled four ground balls.

Gettysburg returns to action at home against Swarthmore College on Saturday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m.
