Jackets Fall to Hanover in MLC Weekday Matchup

HANOVER, Ind. Definance traveled to Hanover to take on the Panthers in a Midwest Lacrosse Conference clash on Wednesday afternoon. Hanover had too much experience for the young DC squad, and the Panthers won, 20-1.

The hosts controlled the game from the opening faceoff, as Hanover's Justin Winkler scored within the first minute of action. The Panthers added another goal four minutes later to increase the lead over DC to 2-0, which is where the score stood after the end of the first frame.

After three more Hanover goals stretched the lead to five, Defiance got on the board in the second quarter due to a goal from James Lopez. The freshman found the back of the net for the fourth time this season to draw the Jackets within four at 5-1. Freshman Jesse Bailey set up the score with his second assist of the year.

After the DC score Hanover outscored the Yellow Jackets 3-0 over the remainder of the half to take an 8-1 lead into the break. The Panthers put 16 shots on goal compared to Defiance's one in the first 30 minutes of action.

HC quickly put the game out of reach in the third quarter, as the Panther attack tacked on eight goals in the stanza to take a commanding 16-1 lead into the final frame.

Hanover went on to add four goals in the last 15 minutes to win by a final of 20-1. The loss drops DC's record to 0-10 on the season and 0-4 in the MLC. The Purple and Gold travels to Beloit, Wis. for its next game, as the team faces off against Beloit at 1:00 p.m.
