Florida Southern Announces Hiring Rob Harris as Asst. Coach

LAKELAND, FL Rob Harris joins the Florida Southern women's lacrosse coaching staff mid-season as an assistant coach under head coach Kara Reber. Harris, who was a collegiate lacrosse player at Grand Valley State University, brings four and half years of coaching experience since graduating from Grand Valley in 2008.

"I was extremely excited when Rob reached out to join our staff," Reber said on the hiring of Harris. "I'm very excited about his knowledge of the game and his enthusiasm. I believe that he will be able to help bring our program to the next level."

Most recently, Harris was the graduate assistant coach for the newly formed women's lacrosse program at Adams State, joining the program as a coach in January 2012.

Before being named the graduate assistant coach for the women's program at Adams State, Harris also served as the assistant coach for the Grizzlies' men's lacrosse program in the fall of 2011.

Prior to Adams State, Harris started his collegiate coaching career in 2010 as Assistant Coach and Director of Lacrosse operations for the Grand Valley State Lakers. Under Harris, the Lakers made the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Div-II national quarterfinals in 2010 and national semifinals in 2011.

Along with his coaching duties at GVSU, Harris was the assistant coach for the junior varsity squad at East Grand Rapids High School in Michigan, starting in 2009. Harris was promoted to head coach of the JV squad in 2011. At East Grand Rapids he was also given assistant coaching duties with the varsity squad.

While at GVSU as a player, Harris played primarily as a defender and Long Stick Midfielder during a four year playing career form 2004-08. In 2008 Harris and the Lakers finished as MCLA Div-II National Championship Runner-ups and won the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association conference title.

Harris earned a bachelor of science degree in Criminal Justice from Grand Valley and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Human Performance and Physical Education with an emphasis in coaching from Adams State.

Harris, a Michigan native, is the son of Stephen Harris, who still resides in Kentwood, Mich., and Cheryl Sutcliffe who currently lives in Oaceanside, Calif. Harris has seven siblings that live across the country.
