Mount Saint Vincent Clipped on the Road at Anna Maria

Paxton, Mass. Mount Saint Vincent dropped a hard-fought 11-10 decision on the road at Anna Maria on Thursday evening. Junior John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) was one of three Dolphins with multiple goals, scoring four on the night.

The two teams played a tightly contested first quarter on Thursday, with each side scoring a goal. Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Dolphins and gave them their only lead of the game at the 7:48 mark of the opening stanza. Rodrigo Henriques answered just over two minutes later for the AMCATS to knot the score at 1-1.

In the second quarter the two sides would trade two goal runs, with Anna Maria scoring four of the six goals in the period. Scott Henry and Henriques each scored in the first five minutes of the frame before Geermaine Ngaba (Bronx, N.Y.) and Petito answered for the Mount to tie the score at 3-3 with 6:30 left before halftime.

Henriques came back for Anna Maria and scored twice in a span of 34 seconds in the final two minutes to give the AMCATS a 5-3 advantage after 30 minutes of play.

Mount Saint Vincent would get to within a goal on four occasions in the third quarter, but would not be able to pull even until Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) tallied 54 seconds into the fourth quarter to tie the score at 8-8.

Lucas Stralka would put Anna Maria back in front by a goal at the 12:57 mark and Henry tallied at 10:05 to push the lead to 10-8. Celestin answered for the Dolphins to bring them back to within a goal with just over seven minutes to play, but Henry added what proved to be the game winner just 12 seconds later for Anna Maria.

Mount Saint Vincent featured five different goals scorers in the game with Celestin and Ngaba joining Petito with multiple tallies. Ngaba closed out a four point night with a pair of assists. McEnaney and Dan Gallante (Bethpage, N.Y.) also added goals for the Mount in the game.

Frank Maddaloni (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up an assist in the game and picked up a team-high four groundballs. Jose Benitez (Floral Park, N.Y.) handed out two assists for the Mount and Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won nine face-offs and scooped three groundballs.

Henry finished the game with five goals for Anna Maria and Henriques added four markers in the win. Jason Baker also had a strong evening with a goal and three assists for the AMCATS. Nathan Batallas picked up a game-high 11 groundballs and Henriques added 11 face-off wins and five groundballs.

Joseph Morris earned the win in the cage for Anna Maria after making 13 saves in the game, while Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) suffered the loss in his first career start after making eight stops.

Mount Saint Vincent outshot Anna Maria in the game 43-30 overall, but just 23-19 in shots on goal. The AMCATS won the groundball battle 35-27 and took 16 of the 25 face-offs taken.

Thursday's loss is Mount Saint Vincent's third straight and drops it to 4-6 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to stop their skid on Saturday when they host league rival Richard Stockton. Face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
