Endicott Races by Southern Maine

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Senior Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) had four goals and five assists to lead the Endicott Gulls to a 16-5 victory over the Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference action Thursday night at North Field.

The win was the second straight for the Gulls, and improved their overall record to 6-4. The Huskies had their two-game winning streak stopped and slipped to 6-3 overall.

Junior Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) picked up six points for the Gulls scoring two goals and dishing off four assists. Senior Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.) had three goals, and classmate Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) picked up four points on two goals and two assists. Junior goalie Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) stopped 13 shots to earn her sixth win of the season.

Junior Jenna Cyr (Limerick, Maine/Massabesic) had two goals for the Huskies. Junior goalie Kim Vogel (Sanford, Maine) had nine saves.

The Gulls jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening 17 minutes of play sparked by three goals from Tierney and a pair from Pratt.

Cyr got the Huskies on the board with 11:20 remaining in the opening half, but the Huskies would not score again until midway through the second half.

Endicott poured in five more goals, including two from sophomore Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.), before halftime to take a comfortable 11-1 advantage in the break. The Gulls would make it nine consecutive goals putting four more shots into the net, including Tierney's fourth goal of the night, in the first 13 minutes of the second half expanding their margin to 15-1.

The Huskies finally managed some offense against Socolow in the final 15 minutes, outscoring the Gulls 4-1 to close the gap to 16-5. Junior Rosie Forster (Andover, Mass.), senior Samantha Purcell (Durham, Maine/Lisbon), junior Jacki Kelly (Brunswick, Maine) and Cyr netted the Huskies goals.

Southern Maine is back in action on Sunday (12:00 p.m.) when it travels to Bangor, Maine, to play at Husson University. Endicott host Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).
