No. 2 West Chester Uses 9-0 Run to Coast by Gannon

WEST CHESTER, Pa. No. 2 West Chester scored the final nine goals of the first half and posted a 17-5 victory against Gannon Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action.

West Chester held a 2-1 lead after Natalie Bonnepart's (San Jose, Calif./Gunderson) goal off a Christie Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) assist with 22:32 remaining in the first half.

After Bonnepart's goal, it was all West Chester for the rest of the half. The Golden Rams rattled off nine straight goals to grab an 11-1 halftime advantage. The home squad out-shot the Lady Knights 20-5 and won 12 of 13 draw controls during the first 30 minutes.

Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) opened the second-half scoring with a goal 2:06 into the final stanza. It ended a Gannon scoreless drought that lasted 24 minutes and 38 seconds. The second half was played on more even terms as West Chester finished with a 6-4 scoring edge during the final 30 minutes.

Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) produced a team-high three points, all coming on assists. Neagle tallied a team-high two goals. Bonnepart, Stevie Lombardoni (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) and Becky Hilker (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central SS) accounted for the other goals. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) recorded five saves in goal.

Gannon, which was listed among others receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll, saw its five-match win streak snapped while dropping to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC. West Chester, tabbed No. 2 in the rankings, remained perfect at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference action. The Lady Knights conclude a weekend road trip Saturday, April 6 at Kutztown. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
