Davidson Crushes Campbell in Big South Play

DAVIDSON, N.C. After Campbell notched the first goal Friday, Davidson rallied to defeat the Camels 18-3 on Richardson Field. CU moved to 5-5 on the season and fell to 0-4 in the Big South.

As CU was a player down the entire game, freshman Erica Hitch put the Camels on the scoreboard in the second minute of play with her team-leading 30th goal of the year. It was the only Camel lead of the game, as the Wildcats held CU scoreless the remainder of the half, netting 12 goals.

"Tough sledding playing with only 11 healthy players," Campbell head coach Phil Schuman said. "I am proud of our players for coming out and fighting under these circumstances. As our program moves forward and grows, we will look back on days like today as 'character builders.' Credit to Davidson for playing well."

In the first half, Campbell took four shots, two on-goal. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer stopped six of 18 Wildcat shots.

Davidson's attack continued in the second half, putting up five goals in the first 15 minutes after the break.

With just over 10 minutes to go, freshman Rebecca Sheinfeld snapped the Wildcat run with a free position goal. Junior Taelar Errington netted the Camels' third goal with eight minutes to go off a Loren Day assist.

CU finished the day with seven shots, five draw controls, and picked up 12 ground balls. Kincer finished the day with 13 saves, bringing her season total to 96.

Campbell returns home after its seven-game road slate Friday, March 12 to take on Presbyterian in a 6:00 p.m. match at Barker-Lane Stadium.
