Catamounts Fall to Boston University as Etrasco Nets Seven

BURLINGTON, Vt. Danielle Etrasco tallied seven goals and Kristen Mogavero added four to lead Boston University past Vermont, 20-17, in America East action Saturday afternoon from Virtue Field. The Terriers improve to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the win, while Vermont falls to 6-8 and 1-3 in league action.

Sydney Mas led the charge for the Catamounts with four scores on her way to tying Vanessa Cox for second on the program's all-time points list, with 173.

Erica Estey collected a career-high three goals and an assist, and Karli MacKendrick and Vanessa VanderZalm added three scores and a helper as well.

Shots in the game were even, at 37 apiece, while the Catamounts held a decisive advantage in ground balls (24-14) and Boston U held the slight advantage in draw controls (22-16).

Vermont tallied three of the game's first four scores before Elizabeth Morse cut the Catamount lead to 3-2 with an unassisted tally.

The Catamounts then went on a big run, scoring seven straight goals, including a pair from VanderZalm and a pair of assists from Justine Allen. Vermont led by a score of 10-2 at the 12:08 mark of the first half.

Boston University answered back with its own run of five straight goals, including two from the team's leading scorer, Danielle Etrasco, to take a 10-7 lead with 4:21 remaining.

After Erica Estey notched her second goal of the game in a man-up situation, the Terriers tallied the final three goals of the half, and took an 11-10 lead into halftime.

The two teams traded a pair of goals to begin the second half before the Terriers notched four consecutive scores, including one in a man-down situation. Mas then scored two of the game's next three goals to pull Vermont back to within two, 17-15.

Following two more scores from the Terriers, MacKendrick and VanderZalm each collected a goal to cut the Catamount deficit to 19-17 with 44 seconds remaining in the contest, but that was as close as Vermont would get, as Boston U added an insurance goal to earn the 20-17 victory.

The Catamounts return to action next Friday (Apr. 12) when they host Boston College at 4:00 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season. Live video from Virtue Field can be seen for free via by clicking here.
