No. 8 Franklin & Marshall Takes Shootout with McDaniel

LANCASTER, Pa. Emily Everdell scored five goals to help lead No. 8 Franklin & Marshall to a 21-13 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. F&M improved its winning streak to four with a 9-2, 4-0 CC mark while the Green Terror dropped to 6-5, 2-2 CC.

F&M struck often and early and jumped out to a 4-0 lead three minutes into the game. Brittney Jorgenson got things started with a goal ten seconds after the opening whistle with Grace Saliba scoring 1:05 later. Everdell made it 3-0 and Ali Kelly buried a pass from Saliba to make it 5-0 at 26:36.

McDaniel managed three scores in a five-minute span with Casey Madden getting her first in between to make it 5-3 with 20:42 left in the first. The Diplomats answered with a 5-0 run over seven minutes to go up 10-3. Everdell, Jorgenson and Krohn each netted one and Mary Mitchell struck 24 seconds apart for the final two scores of the run. Ann Beuudry put one in for the Green Terror and the Diplomats finished off the half with goals from Caroline Doran and Ali Kelly for a 12-4 halftime score.

The Green Terror scored the first two goals of the second half before Everdell netted one at 27:52. The teams traded goals over the next five minutes for a 14-8 score before F&M tallied four straight to take a 19-8 lead with 9:30 left to play. Madden scored twice in the run with Everdell and Shields finished off the spurt.

Danielle Entrot made things interesting with five goals for the Green Terror in the final six minutes of action, but Krohn put two of her own through for the 21-13 victory.

Madden added two assists with Mitchell, Kelly, Jorgenson, Saliba, Abruzzo and Selawski all finishing with one helper apiece.

Kelsey Hoffman had five saves and improved to 9-2 while Lily Galzerano took the loss with four stops.

F&M outshot McDaniel 36-26, had 20 groundballs to the Green Terror's 12 and forced 17 turnovers.

The Diplomats take a week off and return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts Swarthmore at 1:00 p.m.

LANCASTER, Pa. Franklin & Marshall, ranked eighth in the latest IWLCA Division III coaches poll, jumped out to a 12-4 halftime lead en route to a 21-13 Centennial Conference (CC) victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the Green Terror (6-5, 2-2 CC) with six goals, tallying the final six goals for her team.

Emily Everdell paced the Diplomats (9-2, 4-0 CC) with five goals.

Brittney Jorgenson scored 10 seconds into the game to start a 4-0 flurry in the game's first 3:24.

Grace Saliba, Everdell and Ali Kelly added goals during the opening run before Julia Jacobs (Stevensville, Md./St. Mary's) broke up the run, finishing off a Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) feed with 25:08 showing.

Casey Madden stretched the lead to 5-1 before Jacobs completed her hat trick with tallies 1:08 apart, cutting the deficit to 5-2 with 20:42 to play in the opening half.

Everdall countered 1:06 later to spark a 5-0 burst capped by two Mary Mitchell solo runs 24 seconds apart, giving the hosts a 10-3 lead with 12:10 remaining.

Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) hit a free-position shot with 11:42 on the clock before Caroline Doran and Kelly stretched the lead to 12-4 at the intermission.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Mallory Michel (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) scored 40 seconds apart to close the margin to 12-6 before a minute had elapsed in the second half.
