No. 12 Purple Knights Top Pace as Four Notch Multiple Points

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - 12th-ranked Saint Michael's topped Pace, 13-6, to start 5-0 in the Northeast-10 for the first time in program history on Saturday at Pace Field. After the victory, the Purple Knights, who are ranked in the most recent USILA poll, improve to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the league, while the Setters drop to 5-4 and 2-4.

Senior Marty Vanzo (Westford, Vt./Essex/Vermont) tied a career high with five goals while adding a pair of assists and four ground balls for Saint Michael's. Junior Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) tallied career highs of five points, four assists and six ground balls while also netting a goal, and classmate Tim McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) posted his first-career hat trick. Junior Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) scored a pair of goals for the second straight game, while senior Max Zuccarini (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and junior Connor Glackin (South Huntington, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) each had a marker.

Seniors Christian Cook (South Burlington, Vt./New Hampton School), Neil Kelly (Narragansett, R.I./Bishop Hendricken), Liam Pushee (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and junior Chris Casserly (Kensington, N.H./Exeter) all notched four ground balls, while Casserly also won six face-offs. Junior Chris DeMairo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made 12 saves in 49:07 before classmate Andrew Landers (Manchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) made three stops in 10:53.

Senior Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y./Broome CC) led Pace with two goals and two assists, while junior Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) finished with a pair of goals. Junior Marty Schnellenbach (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) had a goal, picked up 12 ground balls and went 15 for 22 on draws.

Classmate William Scioscia (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata) scored once. First-year Conor Brophy (Pompton Lakes, N.J./DePaul Catholic) made five saves in 39:39 of action, and junior Timothy Izzo (Trumbull, Conn./Saint Joseph/Franklin Pierce) turned away six chances in 20:21.

The Purple Knights scored the game's first seven goals, with Quenneville and Vanzo each notching a pair, with 8:10 left to play in the second quarter. The hosts connected on back-to-back goals at 7:50 and 6:40 before Saint Michael's netted the next four goals during a 13:42 span to increase its advantage to 11-2.

Pace ended the visitors' run with 2:47 left in the third before McDonald completed his hat trick with a man-up goal with 1:59 left to play in the period. The Setters had three straight markers during a span of five minutes in the fourth quarter before Vanzo scored the contest's final goal with 1:49 remaining.

The Purple Knights return home on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. tilt against Saint Anselm.
