Maritime Flounders Against Ramapo

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 6, 2013) Maritime lost its home game to Ramapo on Saturday by a score of 18-6. The loss drops Maritime to 2-8 and 1-6 Skyline. Ramapo advances its record to 3-7 and 3-3 in the Skyline.

Ramapo scored the first three goals of the game early in the first half before Maritime freshman Jackie Golematis (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) answered with her first unassisted goal of the day.

She was quickly joined by classmate Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) who scored on a free position shot. Ramapo scored another six unanswered goals when Lavalle caused a turnover and took it to goal, scoring her second of the game and making the score 6-3. The first half ended without another Maritime goal and Ramapo leading 10-3.

Maritime sophomore Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward) scored two goals in the second half and Golematis added one more. Lavelle caused a total of five turnovers in the game and registered four groundballs while Acklin chipped in with three. Freshman goalie Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) registered 11 saves but Ramapo outshot the Privateers to win the game with a final score of 18-6.

Ramapo was lead by freshman Lindsay Hughes who had eight goals followed closely by junior Michelle Gustafson who had six goals. Hughes also won seven draw controls and had three groundballs. Between the pipes sophomore Reagan Vier had 15 saves.

The Privateers return to action on Monday when they travel to Pennsylvania to play Wilkes at 5:00 p.m.
