Buccaneers Race by Defiance in Non-Conference Game

BELOIT, Wis. The Yellow Jackets traveled to Wisconsin on Saturday for the first of two games in the Badger State this weekend. Defiance was unable to keep pace with Beloit, as the Buccaneers won by a final of 20-4.

Defiance's James Lopez scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from Chase Mallory on a man-advantage opportunity with a little over two minutes gone by for the opening goal.

The two players switched roles just four minutes later, as Mallory found the back of the net for his third of the season off an assist from Lopez to take a 2-0 advantage.

After the great start, Beloit settled into the game and controlled the rest of the half. The Buccaneers recorded 10 unanswered goals before Defiance's Tyler Clark managed to get one back just before the break to make the score 10-3. The Jackets were outshot by the home team by a total of 23-17 in the first 30 minutes.

Coming out of the half, Beloit outscored the Purple and Gold 10-0 to put the game out of reach at 20-3. Tyler Clark was able to score his second goal of the game with a minute left to give DC its fourth score of the game and make the final score 20-4.

The Jackets' goalkeeper, Chris Smith, recorded a game-high 18 saves. The freshman leads the Midwest Lacrosse Conference in saves and saves per game.
