Golden Flyers Soar Over Utica for E8 Victory

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Ten different players scored goals for host Nazareth Sunday as the Golden Flyers outscored Utica in an Empire 8 game, 12-5. The victory evened the Golden Flyers' overall record at 5-5 and boosted their conference record to 2-1. Utica is 6-3 overall and 1-2 in conference games.

The Golden Flyers were in control most of the way and never trailed as they led 4-2 at halftime and scored six straight times to open the second half to build the lead to 10-2.

With Nazareth's six seniors -- Megan Cregan, Leah Cronister, Alyssa Johnston, Kayleigh Pearson, Shelby Robinson and Erinn Wood -- playing in their final regular-season home game, the Golden Flyers got three goals and an assist from Johnston, two goals from Cregan, one goal and one assist from Pearson, three assists from Wood and four saves from Robinson.

Nazareth also got goals from juniors Kelsey McNaboe, Amy McIntosh and Emily Rothrock, sophomores Briana Mancini and Brooke Sullivan and freshman Carly Gates.

Johnston scored twice in the first half, while Pearson and Sullivan also tallied as Naz led 4-2. Johnston's second goal, with 7:08 left in the first half, triggered a string of seven straight goals for the Golden Flyers. Cregan and Mancini scored 26 seconds apart to open the second half scoring. Then McIntosh, Gates, Johnston and Rothrock scored in succession to build an insurmountable 10-2 advantage.

Cregan added a free-position goal with 7:34 left and McNaboe added her first goal of the season with :07 left to close out the scoring.

Nazareth had a 30-21 advantage in shots. Robinson made four saves in the first 30 minutes for Nazareth, while junior Tara Prosak had five over the final 30 minutes.

Nazareth is idle until Saturday when the Golden Flyers travel to St. John Fisher for an Empire 8 Conference game at 1:00 p.m.
