Privateers Fall to the Colonels

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 8, 2013) Sophomore Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) scored her first career hat trick and was Maritime's leading scorer in the Monday night games against Wilkes. The Privateers traveled to Wilkes, PA and despite Carella's hat trick fell to the Colonels with a final score of 19-7. The loss brings Maritime's record to 2-9 (1-6 Skyline) and advances Wilkes to 7-1 (1-0 Freedom).

While Carella led the Privateers in goals scored freshmen Jackie Golematis (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) and Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) both registered three points in the game scoring two goals and one assist each. Lavelle also chipped in seven groundballs and caused three turnovers. Freshman goalie Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) registered 5 saves against the Colonels.

Junior Gabby Ford lead Wilkes in scoring with five goals and two assists and also in groundballs with five. Ford was followed closely by freshmen Torri Kerr and Madeleine Brownsey who scored four goals and earned three assists a piece. Kerr also won ten draw controls. Between the pipes senior Brittaney Costigan made seven saves to earn the win.

The Privateers return to action when they host Kean for a conference match-up on Saturday April 13 at 4:00 p.m.
