Donnally Scores Five as #11 Purple Knights Top Saint Anselm

COLCHESTER, Vt. - 11th-ranked Saint Michael's recorded its sixth straight victory with a 13-5 win over Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights improve to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in league, while the Hawks fall to 2-7 and 2-5.

Senior Pete Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard School) scored five goals for Saint Michael's and moved into a tie with Brandon Kobelt '06 for fourth place in program history with 143 career points. Classmate Max Zuccarni (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) notched three goals and an assist, while junior Tim McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) had a pair of markers. Junior Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) totaled a goal, two assists and four ground balls.

Senior Marty Vanzo (Westford, Vt./Essex/Vermont) finished with a goal and an assist, and classmate Asa Sargent (Ripton, Vt./Middlebury Union) scored. Sophomore Luke Solms (Bedford, N.H./Northfield Mount Hermon) recorded career highs of six ground balls and six caused turnovers, while junior Chris Casserly (Kensington, N.H./Exeter) notched five ground balls and went 7 for 13 on draws.

Senior Evan White (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and junior Sean Smith (West Islip, N.Y./Saint John the Baptist Diocesan) each picked up four ground balls, and junior Chris DeMairo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made 11 saves.

Sophomore Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) finished with a goal and an assist for Saint Anselm, while senior James Brine (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) scored a goal and had four ground balls. Junior Jake Mallinson (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) and sophomores Andy Budz (Williamstown, Mass./Trinity-Pawling) and James Peters (Medway, Mass./Medway) picked up a goal apiece.

Junior Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I./La Salle Academy) posted two assists. Junior Matthew Steele (Ipswich, Mass./Saint John's Prep) totaled seven ground balls and won 10 face-offs, while senior Jonathon O'Reilly (Plano, Texas/Plano West) stopped eight shots.

Donnally and Sargent scored consecutive goals for the Purple Knights in the opening 5:56 before the Hawks tallied with 7:46 remaining in the first to cut the hosts advantage to one. Zuccarini added a man-up goal with 5:45 left in the quarter, and Donnally scored with 1:10 to play to extend the Saint Michael's lead to 4-1 after one.

After Saint Anselm scored 2:29 into the second period, the Purple Knights netted the next five goals during a 5:58 stretch to increase their advantage to 9-2. The Hawks converted three of the next four goals to move to within five, but Saint Michael's notched three tallies in the final frame while holding the visitors scoreless.

The Purple Knights are back on the field on Saturday, when they host an Adelphi team ranked second by the USILA at 1:00 p.m.

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Anselm dropped a 13-5 decision to Saint Michael's on Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Field. The Hawks drop to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple Knights, improve to 7-2 and remain undefeated, 6-0 in league play.

After Saint Michael's jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Saint Anselm earned one back when James Peters (Medway, Mass.) picked up a pass from Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) and found the back of the net with 7:46 left to play in the opening quarter.

The Hawks opened up play in the second with a goal from Jake Mallinson (Middletown R.I.), who received a feed from Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.) at the 12:31 mark. The Purple Knights scored five straight throughout the second, before Andy Budz (Williamstown, Mass.) added a tally for Saint Anselm, bringing the game to a score of 9-3. Messner was credited with an assist on the goal, which was scored on the extra-man advantage.
