Blazers Upended by Messiah in Commonwealth Play

FREDERICK, Md.-Hood (3-11, 0-5 Commonwealth) was defeated by Messiah (3-6, 1-2) 15-6 at Thomas Athletic Field Wednesday afternoon. In an abnormally hot day, it was the Falcons who persevered, although Hood's effort could not be faulted.

Senior attacker Alex Engler continued his great run of form with a goal and two assists to lead the Blazer attack. Engler's two assists in the contest give him a team high of 11 on the season. The senior was also credited with two groundballs and a caused turnover.

Senior attacker Doug Brisbane also had a stellar game, netting two goals, while pacing Hood in shots with nine and shots on goal with six. Brisbane now has eight goals on the season and is continually looking dangerous game in and game out. Sophomore Luke Slick also had a memorable game, as the midfielder scored his first collegiate goal in the first period and added a second in the fourth stanza. Freshman Zachary Speights rounded out the scoring for Hood with a goal in the second period.

Junior Randolph Clark had an absolutely superb game on faceoff's with 19 wins out of 22 attempts. The junior was exceptionally quick on the day with Messiah having no answer for his great stick work. The Falcons were just too strong on the offensive end though with three goals apiece by Brian Meenan and Tyler Goglio.

Sophomore goalkeeper Joseph McCulloh took the loss for Hood, although he made nine saves in defeat. Sophomore Cody Haas replaced McCulloh in the final stanza and was credited with three saves. Messiah used three goalkeepers with starter Jon Weimer taking the win. Weimer collected six saves, while Brooks Arnold and T.J. Cole combined for eight saves.

The Blazers will be back at it this Saturday when they host Alvernia University in conference action at 1:00 p.m. Hood will be honoring its six seniors for Senior Day with festivities beginning at approximately 12:45 p.m.
