Garcia Sets Record as Guilford Defeats Hollins

ROANOKE, Va. Junior attacker E'leyna Garcia set Guilford College's career scoring record and the Quakers tied the school standard for wins in a season with a 15-1 ODAC victory at Hollins Wednesday.

Garcia, this week's NCAA Division III's leader in goals and points, scored a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists. She upped her school standard for points in a season to 90, which gives her a Guilford-best 234 points in her two-plus campaigns. Garcia, who also owns the Quakers' career goals mark (177), passed previous record-holder Mary Hutchins '08, who graduated with 226 points.

Guilford (11-1, 7-0 ODAC) won its school-record 10th straight game and matched the standard for wins in a season (11) set by the 2012 team. A season-high eight different Quakers scored at Hollins, including Lily Colley, who netted four goals and had two assists. Eleanora Keene chipped in two goals and three assists for Guilford. All 15 Quakers' goals were assisted, which marks the second-highest assist total in school history.

Freshman Summer Fowler matched the Guilford standard with seven caused turnovers in the game. She also picked up five ground balls. Teammate Liza Mettler made four saves in goal.

Meg O'Brien scored the lone goal for Hollins (1-10, 0-8 ODAC). Corrine Nicholson made nine saves in goal. Hollins used only 11 players in the game, one shy of the regular squad size.

Guilford visits Shenandoah University Saturday in a meeting of the ODAC co-leaders.
