Redlands Rolls to Victory at Pomona-Pitzer

University of Redlands maintained its first-place position in the SCIAC) standings with Wednesday's solid 12-5 victory over Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont. While utilizing nearly everyone on the roster, the Bulldogs erupted for a 10-1 lead through the midway point of the second stanza before cruising to the seven-goal triumph over the Sagehens.

The Maroon and Gray fired off two goals in the first five minutes of action to take a lead that it would never relinquish. Junior midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA) connected with senior attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) at the 27:55-mark before Craycraft found the back of the net less than two minutes later for her first of two goals on the night.

Both teams' offenses went quiet over the next 12 minutes until Pomona-Pitzer's Jana London ended the drought on a successful free-position shot to make it a one-goal game.

However, Redlands shut down the opponents through the end of the first half while rattling off three more goals to earn a 5-1 lead at the break. Senior midfielder Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) unleashed back-to-back netters for the Maroon and Gray, with junior attack player Allie Hoffler (Draper, UT) and Dewan providing assists. In addition, Craycraft scored her second of the night to cap off the first-frame offense with 3:46 remaining.

The Bulldogs provided a perfect 5 for 5 effort on clears in the first 30 minutes, with graduate student goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) heading up this performance as the primary ball-distributor from the cage.

During the second stanza, the Bulldogs continued to roll by scoring the first five goals. Dewan completed her hat trick by initiating the onslaught with consecutive scores through the opening 10 minutes, while freshman midfielder Stephanie Garrett (San Diego, CA) finished off the run with a pair of netters.

Although Redlands converted just two scores in the final 15 minutes, the team's 11th victory of the season was never in question.

In addition to her two goals, Painter led the Maroon and Gray with two assists.

The Bulldogs prevailed in the draw-control battle with a 12-7 advantage, as a trio of players grabbed three apiece. Craycraft, Painter, and senior midfielder Kaite Colasurdo (Eugene, OR) collected the team's majority.

Hoffler, junior midfielder Allison Leipzig (Newton, MA), and sophomore midfielder Robin Taylor (Poway, CA) each grabbed three ground balls to account for half of Redlands' total.

Martinez finished her complete-game showing with five saves, four of which came in the second stanza.

Redlands (11-4, 7-1 SCIAC) returns home on Saturday to face Chapman University in a 7:00 p.m. game on Farquhar Field.
