Geiger's Six Points Helps No. 12 Bentley Outlast Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. Senior attack Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) had a season-high six points, with four of them goals, as No. 12 Bentley outlasted Saint Anselm, 17-13, Thursday night in Northeast-10 action.

The 17 goals is one off Bentley's season high, and the 30 goals total are the most in a game this season. Two others, junior Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) and freshman Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Good Counsel), had four goals as well.

The Falcons led 10-5 early in the second half after Larivee scored just 37 seconds in. But the Hawks chipped away at the deficit over the next six minutes and used a 4-0 run to get to within 10-9 at the 23:40 mark on a goal by sophomore Kelly Pickett.

But Bentley responded with a 4-0 run of its own to take a 14-9 lead with 15:39 remaining, with the goals coming from Cerny, Geiger, senior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and Larivee.

Two straight goals from Saint Anselm's Carrie Brophy, who scored five times on the night, brought the Hawks to within 14-11 with 12:31 to play. But back-to-back goals by Cerny and Bastien 33 seconds apart gave Bentley a comfortable 16-11 advantage with just under 9 minutes remaining.

Saint Anselm did not score again until freshman Caitlin Villareal found the back of the net at 4:25 to make the score 16-12. A man-up goal by Larivee, and Brophy's fifth of the game finished out the scoring with a minute left.

The Falcons improve to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the NE-10 with the win. The Hawks drop to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Bentley's next game is Saturday afternoon at home against Assumption.
