Privateers Edged By Mount St. Vincent

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 11, 2013) Maritime lost a heartbreaker to local Skyline-foe Mount St. Vincent Thursday night at Reinhart Field on a last-minute goal by Dolphin freshman Dan Gallante. The final score of 9-8 drops the Privateers' record to 4-10 (0-4 Skyline), while CMSV improves to 5-7 (1-2 Skyline).

Sophomore Nick Schneider (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) recorded a hat-trick to lead Maritime, while junior Mike Johnson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) added two goals and an assist and senior Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) had two goals. Junior Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Planview JFK) rounded out the Privateers' scoring, while senior Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) chipped in with one assist.

Larmony matched freshman Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) for the game-high with seven groundballs and Hayes was 14 for 18 on faceoffs. Senior goalie Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) made 10 saves on the night.

Schneider scored the first two goals of the game, but Mount fought back to tie the score at 2-2 before the end of the first quarter. In the second, a goal by Johnson gave the Privateers the lead back, but it was short-lived, as two straight tallies by the Dolphins put them, 4-3, before the halftime break.

In the second half, Maritime knotted the score at 4-4 on Larmony's tally early in the third quarter. Two straight goals by CMSV was answered by a man-down goal by Messina and the teams traded goals before the end of the third, as Mount struck first before Messina tallied his second goal of the night.

Johnson scored at 4:50 of the fourth quarter to tie the game, but the Dolphins responded right away to regain the advantage. With 1:47 to play in the fourth, Scheider scored his third of the night to tie the game at 8-8. After a failed man-up opportunity, CMSV gained possession and went downfield and Gallante buried the game-winner with just 28 seconds to go. Hayes won the ensuing faceoff, but the Privateers were unable to find the equalizer.

The Dolphins were led by freshman Mike McEnaney, who had a game-high four points on two goals and two assists. Junior Adrian Go recorded two goals and assist and five other players scored one goal apiece for Mount St. Vincent. Senior goalie Kyle Kalibat was on top of his game tonight, making 22 saves to earn the victory between the pipes. Three players each recorded a team-high four groundballs.

Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when the Privateers will play host to the Montclair St. Red Hawks. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
