Campbell Outguns Presbyterian for First-Ever Big South Win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. Campbell claimed its first-ever Big South win Friday, defeating Presbyterian, 16-13, at Barker-Lane Stadium and moving to 6-5 overall (1-4 BSC).

In the Camels' first home game in over a month, freshman Loren Day netted a team-leading five goals, notched an assist, and added five draw controls, the most for any player.

After trading back-and-forth goals, the first half ended in a tie with each team notching seven. Presbyterian outshot the Camels in the period 16-11, as junior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer tallied three saves.

Juniors Lauren Frick and Cloey Henchcliffe netted back-to-back goals 49 seconds apart to begin the second half, giving Campbell the 9-7 edge less than three minutes after the break.

For the next 15 minutes, the sides traded goals until Day kicked off a four-goal run for the Camels with 12 minutes to go, tying the score at 12. Frick notched her second goal of the game, the go-ahead 13th score, with seven minutes to go.

"We grinded it out at the end of the game when we needed to," said head coach Phil Schuman. "Possession is so key those last six or seven minutes, especially when a team like ours is tired, and we did a great job. I know the score probably doesn't reflect it, but Brittany Kincer played incredibly well and kept us in the game. I was really proud of Taelar Errington's headiness and leadership. It's just great to be back on the winning track."

Kincer finished the day with 10 saves on 23 shots faced, upping her season total to 106.

Adding to Day and Frick's goal totals, Henchcliffe and Errington netted three apiece, while freshman Erica Hitch added two and classmate Sierra Fox tacked on one. Hitch also added three assists, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

As a team, the Camels won 16 draw controls, picked up 16 ground balls, and held a .615 shots percentage, scoring on 16 of 26 attempts.

The Camels have a quick turnaround, as they take on High Point Monday in a 3:00 p.m. match at Barker-Lane Stadium.
