Towson Scores First Five, Coasts by William & Mary

TOWSON, Md. Sophomore attacker Paige Duncan and junior midfielder Rhiannon Coogle combined for nine goals to lead Towson to a 15-5 win over William & Mary on Friday night in Unitas Stadium. The Tigers (6-7, 4-0 CAA) won their fifth straight game and remained undefeated in CAA play with the win.

Duncan helped the Tigers jump out to an early lead as she scored the game's first three goals. Towson held a 3-0 lead with 15:27 to play in the first after Duncan's second hat trick of the year. The Tigers continued their early run with goals from Coogle and redshirt junior attacker Ashleigh Rohrback. Rohrback's goal with 11:19 to play in the first half, gave the Tigers a 5-0 lead.

William & Mary (4-9, 1-3 CAA) briefly halted the Tiger run with a goal at 10:01 from Ellen Shaffrey.

The Tiger offense went back to work at 8:48 as senior midfielder Laura Zinkand scored on a free position shot. Towson scored three more times before the period ended. Coogle tallied a pair of goals for her fifth straight hat trick while Duncan notched her fourth goal of the game with 26 seconds left in the half. Towson took a 9-1 lead at the half.

The Tigers outshot the Tribe 18-9 in the first half and won six of the 11 draw controls.

William & Mary started the scoring in the second half with a free position goal from Caitlin Murphy at 28:36.

The Tigers scored five of the game's next six goals to take a 14-3 lead with 7:53 to play in the game. Coogle and Rohrback each scored a pair of goals during that stretch for the Tigers. Senior attacker Olivia Turner also tallied a goal off an assist from Rohrback.

The Tribe scored a pair of goals to make it a 14-5 game with 1:42 to play. Kaleigh Noon assisted on both of those goals William & Mary.

Towson capped the night's scoring with a goal at 1:06 from sophomore attacker Taylor Moore. Moore's goal was her first of the year and made the final score, 15-5.

Sophomore Kelsea Donnelly made five saves in 41:10 of action and earned her fifth straight victory in goal. Freshmen Alyssa Saxon and Tayler Bowman combined to play the final 18:50 in net, as Saxon made a pair of saves. Colleen Nofi made seven saves in the loss for the Tribe.

Towson outshot the Tribe 15-7 in the second half and finished the game with a 33-16 advantage in shots. The Tigers won seven of 11 draw controls in the second half and held a 13-9 edge for the game in that category.

Coogle led the Tigers as she tied her career-high with five goals. Duncan tallied four goals while Rohrback had three goals and three assists for Towson.

Krystin Mackrides led William & Mary with a goal and an assist.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, April 14 when they host Old Dominion at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs fell to Delaware 8-7 on Friday evening.

Senior Kyrstin Mackrides led W&M (4-9, 1-3) with two points on a goal and an assist, while sophomore Kaleigh Noon provided two assists. Senior Caitlin Murphy, junior Taelor Salmon, junior Jenna Dougherty and sophomore Ellen Shaffrey also added goals for the Tribe.

Towson (6-7, 4-0) took control of the contest early and scored the game's first five goals. Although Shaffrey found the back of the cage on an assist from Mackrides at the 10:01 mark, TU closed the half with a 4-0 run to lead, 9-1, at the intermission.

Although W&M recorded the initial goal of the second half on a free position score by Murphy, Towson answered with a 5-1 run to lead, 14-3, with 7:53 remaining.
