Dominican Falls to No. 8 NYIT on Jack Kaley Day

Queens, N.Y. (4/13/13) NYIT, currently ranked 8th, topped Dominican 21-5 this afternoon in a game played at DaSilva Memorial Field on the campus of St. John's University. The game was part of "Jack Kaley Day," while St. John's will host Villanova later this afternoon.

Junior midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) tallied a season high four goals on the day.

The Bears did the most damage with 11 goals in the first quarter for the 11-0 lead.

Dominican got on the board with the first goal of the second quarter as Dertinger netted the unassisted goal with just under ten minutes left in the quarter. After a Bear goal, Dertinger scored his second game goal off the assist from Nicholas Capano (Troy, N.Y.) to make the score 12-2. A New York Tech goal to close out the second quarter made the score 13-2.

Dertinger began the scoring in the second half with his second unassisted goal of the game, this one during a man-up opportunity with 14:41 left in the third quarter. A 5-0 Bear run closed out third quarter play and extended their lead to 18-3.

DC netted the first two goals of the fourth quarter, both unassisted as Dertinger recorded his fourth game goal and Capano followed almost two minutes later with his third goal of the season to cut the deficit to 18-5. NYIT ended the game with a 3-0 run for the final 21-5 score.

Starting goalie Matthew Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y.) had eight saves in 45 minutes of action, while Andrew Slater (Brookfield, Conn.) made 13 saves in the 15 minutes of play.

With the loss, the Chargers fall to 0-8 on the season and 0-3 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.
