CMSV Upended at Mount Saint Mary

Newburgh, N.Y. Mount Saint Vincent was dealt an 18-8 Skyline Conference loss at Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon. Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with six goals and Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) picked up a team-high five groundballs.

Ela Igdeler got the Knights off to a quick start with her first of three goals is in the game just 1:03 into the contest. It was the first of eight Mount Saint Mary goals to open the game, as the Knights got out to a 13-3 advantage heading into halftime.

Flores got the Dolphins on the board at the 24:01 mark of the first half and Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) netted back-to-back goals in a four minute span to get the Mount to within 103, but Mount Saint Mary tallied the final three goals of the period, all with a man advantage, to build the 10 goal halftime lead.

Flores scored all five of Mount Saint Vincent's goals after halftime but the two teams played the second stanza even, splitting the 10 goals that were scored. Katy Carelli scored twice for the Knights after halftime.

Mount Saint Mary featured six players with at least two goals in the game, with Kaileen Spadaro leading the way with seven points on the strength of four goals and three assists. She also picked up a groundball and won a draw control for the Knights.

Igdeler finished up with three goals, an assist and six draw controls for the Knights and Erin Murray scooped a team-high four groundballs and caused three turnovers. Cartelli and Danielle Krupka each scored three times for Mount Saint Mary.

Flores added a groundball and a draw control to her six markers of Saturday and Fraser recorded a draw control to go with her two tallies in the game. Ramsden finished with three caused turnovers and Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.), Melina Mezzonotte (Shirley, N.Y.) and Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) each recorded an assist.

Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) finished the game with 11 saves and a groundball in goal, while her counterpart from Mount Saint Mary, Stephanie Schuett, earned the win with one stop.

Mount Saint Mary finished the game with the edge in shots 36-13, shots on goal 29-9, groundballs 27-20 and draw controls 21-7.

Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 4-8 overall on the season and to 2-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Monday when they welcome league foe Purchase. Opening Draw is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
