Greenfield's Goal at 0:33 Lifts Fairfield Over Air Force

Allen got Air Force on the board in the first minute of the contest, but Fairfield (7-5, 3-2) responded with three straight scores to take the lead midway through the opening period. Following a man-up goal by Tommy McKee (Jr., Holt, Mich.) brought the Falcons back within one, the Stags closed out the quarter with two more scores.

Fairfield earned its largest lead of the game early in the second period, but Cassady got on the board with a man-up score assisted by Keith Dreyer (So., Malvern, Pa.) at the 12:46 mark, as the Falcons went into the half trailing 6-3.

Air Force (6-6, 1-4) notched the only scores of the third period, getting goals from Cassady and Mike Crampton (Jr., Kinnelon, N.J.) to cut the margin to 6-5. However, Fairfield moved back ahead by two with a goal off the opening face-off in the fourth quarter.

After another score from Allen with just under six minutes to play, the Stags pushed the margin to 8-6 at the 3:35 mark. However, Air Force responded with back-to-back goals from Allen and Erik Smith (Jr., Golden, Colo.), who tallied the equalizer with just 51 seconds remaining. Fairfield was able to win the ensuing face-off, finding the back of the net with 33 seconds on the clock, and held on for the win as Air Force was unable to score in the final seconds.

The two teams played evenly throughout the game, with Fairfield outshooting Air Force by one, while the Falcons had a slight edge on face-offs, winning 11 of 20. Meanwhile, Air Force scored on 2 of 3 man-up opportunities, while holding Fairfield scoreless on the EMO.

The Falcons return to action next weekend, April 20, when they host Ohio State in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
