No. 3 Limestone Wins Battle with No. 10 Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - A late burst to end the first half and start the second would send third-ranked Limestone to a 12-10 victory over 10th-ranked Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 14-1 overall, 7-0 in league play capturing the regular season title while also dropping the Falcons to 12-2, 4-2.

Limestone put home the game's first goal 38 seconds into the contest as Zach Cummings (Crownsville, MD) put the Saints up one. Pfeiffer would then reel off the next four-in-a-row to grab a three-goal lead. Steven Tilmon (Orlando, FL) started the scoring for the Falcons while Mike Triolo (Toronto, Ont.) gave the hosts a 2-1 at the 9:25 mark of the first. After Matt Michaeli (Draper, UT) and James Shepherd (St. John, NB) made it a 4-1 game, Riley Loewen (Burnaby, BC) halted the run with 5:32 left in the period.

Tilmon would again nearly two minutes later to give the Falcons a 5-2 lead before the Saints closed out the quarter with Reid Reinholdt (Port Moody, BC) and Todd Nakasuji (Ajax, Ont.) strikes for a 5-4 Pfeiffer lead after the first 15 minutes.

In the second, Reinholdt would strike again to even the contest with 9:51 to play before Tilmon again put the Falcons on top with his third of the day with 6:47 remaining. Tor Reinholdt (Port Moody, BC) and Elliot Gilbert (Corning, NY) traded goals for both sides for a 7-6 lead for the Falcons until Corey Rich (Sacramento, CA) and Jake Ternosky (LaFayette, NY) gave the Saints an 8-7 halftime lead.

Tor Reinholdt start the second half scoring with an unassisted goal to put the Saints up two until Gilbert responded to send it back to a one-goal game. Loewen would then push momentum all over to Limestone with back-to-back goals three-and-a-half minutes apart to put Limestone up three. James Shepherd (St. John, NB) and Kory Lutes (Orlando, FL) would try to make things interesting towards the end, but a final Rich goal before Lutes' strike sealed the deal for the Saints.

Pfeiffer gets back to action next weekend as the #2 seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament. Semifinal action will begin on Friday with the two winners meeting in Sunday's championship tilt.

MISENHEIMER, N.C. Facing rival No. 10 Pfeiffer (11-3, 5-1 CC) on their home turf, No. 3 Limestone (12-1, 6-0 CC) earned their fifth straight Conference Carolinas regular season championship, downing the Falcons 12-10 on Saturday, April 13.

Senior attack Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) drilled home three goals and added a pair of assists to lead the way while senior midfielder Tor Reinholdt (Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada) finished with two goals and two assists. They were joined by junior attack Todd Nakasuji (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) with a pair of assists and a score along with three groundballs.

Senior attack Corey Rich (Sacramento, Calif.) added two goals, an assist and a pair of groundballs while senior face-off specialist Jake Ternosky (LaFayette, N.Y.) went 12 of 24 at the center X and scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway.

Freshman midfielder Reid Reinholdt (Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada) chipped in with a pair of goals and senior goalkeeper Christian Dzwilewski (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) went all 60 minutes in goal, allowing 10 goals and making 17 saves to improve to 9-1 on the year.

Senior midfielder Zach Cummings (Crownsville, Md.) got the Saints on the board just 48 seconds into the game off a pass from Todd Nakasuji before Pfeiffer rattled off the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead at the 6:34 mark of the first quarter. The teams then traded goals to make if 5-2 before Limestone drilled three straight to tie it at 5-5 with 9:51 to play in the second quarter.
