No. 6 Salisbury Snaps St. Mary's Winning Streak

St. Mary's City, Md. St. Mary's saw their win streak halted at seven with a 15-4 setback at the hands of No. 6 Salisbury in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The loss not only gave St. Mary's (9-5, 4-1 CAC) its first conference setback this season but also put the Seahawks in a two-way tie for second in the league standings with the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans. Next Saturday, April 20 at 3:00 pm, St. Mary's and the Spartans will battle for a first-round bye and a home game during the semifinals of the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Perugini (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) put the Seahawks on the scoreboard first at 6:16 as Perugini finished off a pass from first-year attackman Conor Jordan (Rockville, Md./Rockville). A pair of unassisted Salisbury goals gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The Seahawks struck first again to start off the second quarter. This time, sophomore attackman Eric Simon (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) picked up his fourth goal of the season at 8:47 off an assist from sophomore midfielder Nate Babcock (Baltimore, Md./Severn). The Sea Gulls rattled off three straight, including two man-down goals, to break the 2-2 draw at 3:07. Junior midfielder Ben Love (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) pulled St. Mary's within two at 1:52 before Salisbury scores in the final 59 seconds for a 6-3 SU halftime lead.

Senior attackman Zach Hill (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) paced the Sea Gull offense with three goals and an assist while sophomore attackman Wade Korvin (Odenton, Md./Arundel) also recorded a hat trick. Midfielders Tyler Smith (Madison, N.J./Madison) and John Brewer (West Hartford, Conn./West Hartford) each chipped in two goals and an assist for Salisbury.

The Seahawks were held scoreless in the third stanza but St. Mary's defense kept the Sea Gulls in check, giving up just two goals in 15 minutes. Salisbury netted seven unanswered goals in the final period to stretch its run to 10-0 since the 59-second mark of the second quarter. Senior attackman Stew D'Ambrogi (Severna Park, Md./Severn) ended the Seahawks' 30:51-minute scoring drought with the game's final tally.

Senior goalkeeper Scott Marsh (Crofton, Md./South River) turned away 11 Sea Gull shots while first-year Joey Casey (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) added three stops in the final nine minutes. Junior Alex Taylor (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) had five saves for the Sea Gulls as Taylor improved to 13-3 on the season.

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - No. 6 Salisbury ended its regular-season Capital Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday with a 15-4 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Salisbury was led by attackmen, senior Zach Hill and sophomore Wade Korvin, who both netted hat tricks. Hill had a team-high four points. Midfielders, senior Eric Kluge and junior Greg Korvin tied for a team-high two assists.

After nearly nine minutes of scoreless action to start the game, the Sea Gulls fell to an early deficit on a goal by Tim Perugini, but the Seahawks' early lead was short lived.

Junior midfielder Tyler Smith put away the Gulls' first goal at the 4:45 mark to tie the game, which was followed by sophomore midfielder John Brewer's first goal of the season, giving Salisbury (13-3, 6-0 CAC) a 2-1 lead.

SU entered the second quarter with the lead, but the second goal for St. Mary's tied the game, before Salisbury outscored the Seahawks 4-1 in the remainder of the half.
