Spartans Ground Eagles to Stay Perfect in NAC

Bangor, Maine - Castleton used a balanced attack, with 10 different goal scorers, to stay perfect within North Atlantic Conference play burying the Eagles 17-2 on Sunday, Apr. 14 in Bangor.

The Spartans received three-goal efforts from Jennilee Mark, Blake Wardwell, and Maddy DaCosta to lead the way. Amanda Flodstrom acted as a catalyst for the Spartans, dishing off a game-high three assists and tallying one goal.

Freshman Brandi Whittemore filled up the statistics columns, earning a goal, two assists, six grounballs, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers, while Kelsey McDonald made seven saves in net to earn the win for the Spartans.

Castleton jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Mark notched two goals in the first seven minutes to put the Spartans ahead. Husson got on the board with a tally from Caitlyn Stauffer with 22:34 left in the half, but Mariah Lesure answered by converting a free position shot just 30 seconds later to put Castleton up 3-1.

After two more Castleton goals, Husson scored again, this time Amanda Mora beat McDonald on an assist from Alissa Fallon, to make the score 5-2 with 18:06 left in the first half. After that Husson tally, the Spartans held the Eagles scoreless for the remaining 48:06 of the game.

Castleton outscored the Eagles 10-0 in the remainder of the first half, including a man-down tally by Wardwell. At the halfway point, the Spartans led 15-2.

In the second, Castleton was content with cycling the ball, maintaining posession for the majority of play, keeping the Eagles off the board and scoring just twice.

With the victory, the Spartans improve to 6-7 on the season and maintain their perfect run in the NAC, moving to 5-0. They will take on Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, Apr. 20 in an attempt to stay flawless in conference play. The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
