Golden Flyers Soar Over the Highlanders

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored the game's first 15 goals Tuesday at Houghton, as the Golden Flyers had little difficulty evening their overall record at 6-6 with a 19-4 victory over the Highlanders in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Nazareth, at 6-6 overall, plays on the road again Saturday at Stevens at 1:00 p.m. Houghton is 0-10.

Senior Erinn Wood had two goals and four assists and junior Kelsey McNaboe scored three times. Seniors Alyssa Johnston and Megan Cregan each scored twice as did junior Alex McFaddin and freshman Carly Gates. The game also featured the first career goal for senior Shelby Robinson, who also produced three saves in the second half as the Golden Flyers' goalie.

Cregan scored for the Golden Flyers just 10 seconds into the contest and the Golden Flyers tallied seven times before the game was six minutes old. Wood had two goals and two assists in the early flurry and Cregan added her second goal.

A goal by Gates with 5:30 left in the first half pushed Nazareth's lead to 15-0 before the Highlanders finally broke through on a goal by Amanda Zacchigna with 3:26 left in the half. Robinson then added her goal with :27 left in the half.

Nazareth had advantages in shots (31-15), ground balls (30-24) and draw controls (14-10). Junior goalie Tara Prosak had five ground balls and five saves in the first half. Robinson, Gates, McFaddin and Hannah Prince each had three ground balls.
