Queens Tops Mount Olive to Reach Semifinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Queens advanced to semifinals of the Conference Carolinas tournament this evening after defeating Mount Olive (9-8) 16-7 at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals improve to 9-9 on the year.

Maggie Masters and Jena Ready led the Royals with six points each in the win. Ready notched three goals and three assists, while Masters tallied four goals and two assists. Brittany Barnwell also recorded four goals to along with eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. Danielle Horoschak took the win in the net with five saves.

After going ahead 4-1, the Royals found themselves tied with the Trojans 4-4 with 18:27. With the game tied at 6-6, Queens would notch three goals in a row to head into the break with a 9-6 lead.

The Royals dominated play in the second half outscoring Mount Olive 7-1 to take the win over the Trojans.

Queens outshot Mount Olive 37-16, and won 18 draw controls to the Trojans' seven.

Riann Daziel led Mount Olive's offense with two goals and two assists. Heather Cockburn added three points with two goals and one assists. Sarah Snell took the loss in the net with 11 saves.

The Royals will face No. 6 Pfeiffer on Saturday in Burlington, N.C. Queens will play the second game of the doubleheader series.
