Bonnies, Thomas Halt Losing Streak, Defeat Detroit

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. St. Bonaventure (6-9) broke its season-long seven-game losing streak with a 15-9 victory over the Detroit Titans (3-13) at McGraw-Jennings Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Mackenzie Jordan struck first for the Brown and White just 37 seconds into the game. Detroit responded with two goals of its own only to be matched with two more from the Bonnies.

With the Bonnies trailing 4-3, Erin Thomas netted the first of her season-high five goals with 10:52 to play in the first half. The two teams with trade scores the rest of the way to provide Detroit with a 7-6 halftime advantage.

St. Bonaventure opened the second half with a outburst of three goals over the first 2:11. The run would reach 4-0 when Taylor Ventre netted her 13th of the season, giving the Brown and White a 10-7 lead.

Detroit gave its best effort to work its way back into this one when Zaynib Hamze put down her fifth and sixth scores of the game, bring the tally to 10-9 in favor of the Bonnies with just 11:44 to play.

Erin Thomas, however, imposed her will as she had all game with speed that the Titans had no answer for. Thomas took the draw control following Detroit's ninth score and drove straight for the goal, then powered home her fourth goal of the afternoon to start the game deciding 5-0 run.

Following scores by Lauren Michaels, Jenna Schlagenhauf and Tohnnie Smock, Thomas drove home her fifth and final score with 1:52 to play to cap off the 15-9 victory for the Bonnies.

Aside from Thomas' five goals, Taylor Ventre, Mackenzie Jordan and Jenna Schlagenhauf each added two. Lauren Michaels, Carrie Kubasta, LeighAnn Stauffer and Smock all added one. Stauffer and Mikayla Place each contributed a pair of assists.

The Bonnies will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 19) when they welcome in the No. 13 UMass Minutewomen for a 1:00 p.m. face off.
