Aquin Nets Five as No. 3 RIT Wins Liberty Battle with Union

SCHENECTADY, NY Senior attack Nolan Connors and junior attack Nate Greenberg each had two goals and an assist, but Union (6-6, 1-3 Liberty League) fell, 14-7 to No. 3 RIT (12-2, 4-0 Liberty League) at Frank Bailey Field.

Liberty League leading scorer Kyle Aquin scored five goals and teammate Jack Kryzton added four goals and an assist to lead the RIT offense. RIT goaltender Pat Johnston made 14 saves, while his counterpart in net, Stefan Basile, made five saves for the Dutchmen.

Senior midfielder Alex Stone had nine ground balls to lead both teams. For the game, Union outshot RIT, 44-32, but the Tigers held a 29-28 advantage on ground balls and 13-11 edge on faceoffs.

Union got off to a quick start in the contest as freshman Nolan Stauffer scored on a man-up feed from Connors at 9:34 to take a 1-0 lead.

But RIT would answer with four straight goals in the contest, capped off by Kyle Aquin's tally at 13:17 of the second quarter. Connors answered for Union on a goal in tight off a feed from sophomore Richard Gregory at 12:34.

RIT would close out the half with a three goal run, capped off by Taylor Wisman's tally at 8:02 of the 2nd quarter to take a 7-2 lead at the break.

Union's Greg Mooney scored from long range on the opening possession of the second half for Union at 14:24 to make it 7-3, but RIT once again answered, as Aquin scored at 14:08 (man-up) and 10:42 (man-up) to make it 9-3.

Greenberg scored his second of the afternoon at 8:48 and Connors added another goal on an impressive individual effort to get to the front of the cage at 6:03 to make it 9-5. RIT closed out the third quarter with four of the next five scores in the contest, capped off by Allister Warren's goal at 2:49.

Greenberg added his second of the contest, a man-up goal at 6:41 of the fourth quarter, while RIT's Jack Kryzton scored his fourth goal of the game with :50 to play to round out the scoring.

Union will continue Liberty League play next Wednesday at Vassar in a 7:00 p.m. contest in Poughkeepsie, NY.

SCHENECTADY, NY Sophomore Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) scored five goals, and the Tiger's defense turned in another stifling performance, as No. 3 RIT (12-2, 4-0) team defeated Union (6-6, 1-3), 14-7, in Liberty League action on Wednesday afternoon.

Aquin finished with five points on five goals, giving him a team-best 41 for the season. Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) tallied four points on a goal and three assists, and Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) had four goals and an assist for the Tigers who came into the game eighth in all of Division III in scoring, averaging 15.31 goals per game.

Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) dished out three assists, while Pat McMullan (Easton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) each had a goal and an assist.

Shots were 44-32 in favor of Union, while RIT held a slight 29-28 ground ball edge. The Tigers, who came into the game ranked second in the country in man-up offense converting 52.5 percent of their chances, were 3 for 5 on man-up chances Wednesday.

Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell), who is sixth this week in save percentage among Division III goalies, picked up his twelfth win of the season making 14 saves in net for the Tigers who have now won six straight games. RIT's defense held an opponent to under 10 goals for the eleventh time in 14 games this season.
