Lukaszewicz Nets Seven as Swarthmore Downs Drew

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Ian Lukaszewicz fired off a career-best seven goals as Swarthmore (4-8) ignited to a 17-8 victory at Drew (2-9) on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

In addition to Lukaszewicz seven goals – including two man-up goals in the second period – he finished with one assist and four ground balls. Senior Steve Selverian notched three goals and one assist, while junior Jonathan Molloy cranked out three goals and three assists. Sophomore Andrew Preiser collected a season-high four assists in the victory.

Between the pipes, Swarthmore's junior keeper Jonathan Cohen made 14 saves in 50:09 minutes of playing time. Freshman RJ Tischler and sophomore Callen Rain closed out the game for the Garnet.

Patrick Lamon led the Rangers offense with four goals and Eric Tripp finished with two assists. Kevin Cleary fought for 11 faceoff wins and Alex Majd took nine faceoffs in a 20-8 advantage for Drew.

Swarthmore led from wire-to-wire, outscoring the Rangers in all frames – including a 6-1 second period trounce to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.

The Rangers opened the third period scoring with Lamon's third goal at 11:21 and Mark Barus added an unassisted tally at 10:06 for an 11-4 score. Swat responded with three straight goals –Selverian, Grayson Roze, Lukaszewicz – for a 10-goal advantage.

In the final 16:20 minutes of play Drew outscored the Garnet 4-3, but it wasn't enough to shrink the goal deferential.

The homestanding Rangers held a 42-35 shot advantage, 44-33 edge in ground ball pick-ups and won 20 of the 28 faceoffs. However, Swarthmore converted on 6 of 9 extra man opportunities and controlled the ball more efficiently - committing just 14 turnovers to the Rangers' 23 - to collect the victory.

Swarthmore returns to Centennial play on Saturday, April 20 visiting Dickinson at 1:00 p.m.
