Red Devils Upended by Green Terror

(Carlisle, Pa.) Dickinson had a strong start against visiting McDaniel, but the Green Terror closed out the game with 5-1 run to claim a 12-9 win on Wednesday night.

The Devils struck early as first-year Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) scored just 39 seconds into the game, finding the net off an assist from classmate Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel).

Carly O'Brien (Cranberry, N.J./Princeton Day School) put the Devils up, 2-0, making a great move in front of the cage at the 26:31 mark.

Julia Jacobs scored back-to-back goals to even the score, 2-2. Sophomore Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) added an unassisted goal before O'Brien sandwiched a pair of her own around a counter from Paige Messersmith.

Messersmith tallied again at the 3:21 mark, to make the score, 5-4. Maggie Quinn finished an assist from Jacobs to tie the game as the teams went into halftime.

Morrissey traded goals with Bridget Bopst before the Devils saw back-to-back goals from Dawson and senior Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) in a span of just 41 seconds to give them an 8-6 lead with 21:51 remaining.

The Green Terror strung together a five-goal run to pull in front, 11-8, with 15:21 to play in the game. O'Brien broke up the run, scoring off an assist from Catie Ledwick (Weston, Conn./Weston) with six minutes to play.

Messersmith closed out the scoring with three minutes remaining in regulation. The Green Terror held on for the win, improving to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the Centennial Conference.

O'Brien led the Red Devils with four goals and four ground balls. Clancy controlled three draws while Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa/Radnor) picked-up three GBs and controlled a pair of draws on the night. Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) had three GBs and a draw as well.

Grace Morelli (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) made four saves in the nets.

Messersmith finished with four goals while Jacobs tallied three goals and one assist. Lily Galzerano came up with 13 saves for the Green Terror.

The Red Devils slip to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference. They travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.

WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel scored five straight goals midway through the second half to surge to a 12-9 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory over Dickinson on Wednesday.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) led the Green Terror (8-6, 4-3 CC) with four goals.

Carly O'Brien paced the Red Devils (7-6, 3-3 CC) with four goals of her own.

Trailing 8-6, Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) finished a feed from Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) to spark a five-goal rally with 21:17 remaining.

Julia Jacobs (Stevensville, Md./St. Mary's) knotted the game at 8-all just 2:11 later before Messersmith put McDaniel in front for good with 16:50 on the clock.

Just 55 seconds after that, Entrot stretched the advantage to two off an Anna Molhenrich (Towson, Md./Mercy) assist before Molhenrich tallied from Entrot just 34 seconds later.

O'Brien cut the deficit to 11-9 with six minutes to play before Messersmith set the final margin with three minutes showing.

Goals from Caroline Clancy and O'Brien staked the hosts to a 2-0 in the game's first 3:29.

A pair of Jacobs goals 33 seconds apart evened the game with 22:53 on the clock.

Ali Dawson and O'Brien reestablished the two-goal advantage before Messersmith and O'Brien traded solo runs.

Messersmith and Quinn tallied in the final 3:12 of the first half to even the game at the break.

Jennifer Morrissey and Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) traded goals to open the second half before Dawson and Clare Manoli scored 39 seconds apart to give the Red Devils the 8-6 lead.

Lily Galzerano (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made 13 saves between the pipes.

The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
