Privateers End Season with Loss to Stockton on Senior Night

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 17, 2013) Maritime dropped its final game of the 2013 season on Wednesday night at home to Skyline opponent Richard Stockton, 20-1, at Reinhart Field. The Privateers record falls to 4-12 (0-6 Skyline) on the season, while the Ospreys improve to 6-8 (2-3 Skyline).

Prior to the game, the men's lacrosse program paid tribute to their seven graduating seniors with a very special Senior Night Ceremony. Seniors Daniel Viggiano (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), Ed Fargo (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), Joe Villarreal (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell), Cory Gallagher (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore), Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) were all honored and joined on the field by their parents before action got underway.

In the game, Messina scored the only goal for the Privateers and it came in the second quarter with Stockton ahead 10-0. Freshman Neal Sansing (Georgetown, Texas/Georgretown) recorded the assist on the tally. Classmate Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) won 12 of 20 faceoffs and picked up a game-high nine groundballs. In goal, Barbuto made 16 saves.

Stockton was led by sophomore Nick Bologno, who had six goals and three assists for nine points. Freshman Vincent Manasia tallied five goals, while senior Tom Walsh added two goals and two assists. The Ospreys had seven other goal-scorers on the night. Sophomore goalie Anthony Montalbano got the win after making seven saves.
