3d Rising - Player Evaluations from 3d Lacrosse, 4/18

#47 Matt Geran 2013
Lambert High School, Suwanee, GA
Position: Attack
Sub-Position: Feeder, finisher
College Commitment: Furman
Rating: Player

Matt Geran was a marked man coming into the game. He is Lambert's top offensive player with a cannon from outside as well as the ability to feed inside. Centennial took the threat seriously and actually shut him off with a short stick in the first offensive possession, opting to play 5v5 lacrosse. Lambert adjusted getting him the ball at the sideline on a change of possession and on man up. Despite his limited touches, he was involved in all 3 of Lambert's first quarter goals with 1 goal and 2 assists. 2 of these points came on EMO plays. Geran pulled up injured in the 2nd quarter and sat out the rest of the game.

Game 3: Northview High School 9 / Westminster 7

Northview High School, Johns Creek, GA
Mike Ryan is a CC and leads this 5A and below lacrosse program. Ryan graduated from SUNY Cortland where he played defense. He started his 30 year coaching career at the high school level in NY and continued onto RIT. Ryan moved to GA in 1997 and has been involved in all levels of boys lacrosse since he arrived. He took over the reins at Northview in 2009. Northview is a big, physical team, with a pair of seniors in key attack positions. Having beat Lambert early in the season, they established themselves as championship contenders for their division.

Westminster, Atlanta, GA
Tony Souza is in his 12th year as the head boys' coach at Westminster. He serves as Dean of Boys in the high school and teaches mathematics. A product of Loyola Blakefield and St. Mary's in Annapolis he went on to play midfield at Lehigh. Upon graduation he stayed on as an assistant coach while completing his graduate degree. Under his leadership Westminster has won the State Championship 3 times, in 2003, 2007, and 2010. Despite the fact that Westminster has a much smaller pool of athletes to draw from, Souza consistently gets the most out the players he has. Westminster's current team is young, drawing many of its starters from the classes of 2015 and 2016. These kids have been playing together since the 4th grade, so expect Westminster to make a run deep into the playoffs, despite their youth.

#5 Josh Porter 2013
Northview High School, John's Creek, GA
Position: Attack
Sub-Position: Feeder, finisher
Rating: Watch List

Josh Porter had 5 unassisted goals. A big attackman who can dodge both from X and the wing, he took his defenseman to task in this matchup. Westminster had their top defenseman, Charlie Trense #20 on Northview's All American #14 Kevin Colton, which gave Porter the opportunity to take advantage of his mismatch and he did.

Game 4: Lassiter High School 14 / Decatur High School 7

Lassiter High School, Marietta, GA
Brendon Leezer is the head boy's coach of this 6A program. Leezer grew up playing lacrosse in Philly and continued in college at the University of Pittsburg. While Lassiter has been through a couple of of head coaches since Pete Manderano left to coach at Piedmont College, the one constant has been Gene Ferraro, a CC and their offensive coordinator. Ferraro is a product of Geneva High School, and went on the play lacrosse at Ohio State in the late 1970s. Ferraro was instrumental in leading Lassiter to its 2 State Championships in 2004 and 2006. Lassiter plays a very physical style of lacrosse and draws from a deep pool of multisport athletes. Further, much like Lambert they have a consistently strong Jr. Trojan feeder program. Their 8th grade youth team is 15-0 this season and looks to run the table, so the future is bright at Lassiter.
