Kutztown Overpowered by No. 13 Indiana (PA)

INDIANA, Pa. Kutztown took an early lead over Indiana (PA) Friday afternoon but ultimately fell 18-3 to the undefeated Crimson Hawks in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game.

In the first minute of action, Kutztown freshman Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) utilized a turnover to score the first goal of the game, giving KU the 1-0 advantage.

After some back and forth play on both ends of the field, the Crimson Hawks evened up the score at 1-1. IUP then won the following five draw controls to score five more goals to take a 6-1 lead.

Randy Vite (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) stepped up to win the following draw control, leading to a shot on goal by Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township). IUP goalkeeper Chelsey Hipp made the save however, and the Crimson Hawks rained down three shots before finding the back of the net to take the score to 7-1.

Following a save by KU goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape), the Golden Bears switched back into offensive mode and Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) scored the second goal for KU on an assist by Dickey with 10:30 left in the first half.

The Crimson Hawks opened the second half scoring two goals in the first minute of play. Vite then earned her third draw control of the game followed by back and forth possession of both teams, until Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp) scored the third and final goal for KU 5:30 into the second half to take the score to 10-3.

The rest of the game ensued in heated efforts by the Golden Bears to take back the offensive advantage, however KU was unsuccessful in taking any more shots, and IUP scored eight unanswered to win the game.

McLaughlin had nine saves on IUP's 33 shots, limiting the Crimson Hawks to finish 3 for 7 in free position shots.

The Golden Bears return to action when they travel to Lock Haven University tomorrow, April 20 for a 3:00 p.m. start.
