Mount Saint Vincent Downed By Visiting St. Joseph's-L.I.

Yonkers, N.Y. Mount Saint Vincent closed out the Skyline Conference portion of the 2013 schedule on Saturday afternoon with an 18-7 loss to St. Joseph's-L.I. Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) was one of three players with at least two goals for the Mount and finished the day with four points.

The Dolphins fell behind quickly on Saturday after St. Joseph's scored five times in the first 11:08 of the contest. Heather Ferchland led the opening run for the Golden Eagles with two goals and Karalyn Tetelman added a goal and an assist.

Mount Saint Vincent got on the board with 18:07 left in the first half when Flores potted her first of three goals in the game. Flores' marker started a 3-1 run for the Dolphins that saw them inch to within 6-3 with 15:58 left before halftime. Flores added her second and Katie Coyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added her first of two in the spurt for the Mount.

St. Joseph's would go on to close the first half on a 6-0 run to take a nine goal lead into halftime at 12-3. Erin Sullivan keyed the closing run for the Golden Eagles with a pair of goals and an assist.

Mount Saint Vincent came out of halftime and got to within 13-5 after Flores and Coyle scored around a Ferchland marker in the first 4:04 of the second half, but the visitors went on to score three straight after Coyle's second of the game to spread the lead out to 16-5 with 21:42 left in regulation.

Flores added her third goal of the game with just over 14 minutes left to play and Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied her second of the day with just under 10 minutes left, but the Mount could not close any closer then 10 goals the rest of the way.

With three goals and an assist on Saturday, Flores sits atop the team leader board with 37 goals, 11 assists and 48 points on the season. She closed out the day with three draw controls for the Dolphins.

Coyle and Fraser each tallied twice for Mount Saint Vincent with Fraser picking up a pair of groundballs. Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scooped a team-high five groundballs and recorded an assist and Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) contributed three draw controls, three caused turnovers and four groundballs.

The Golden Eagles were paced by four goals and five points and a team-high six groundballs from Ferchlandand also received three goals and four points from Tetelman. Nicole Lyman led all players in the game with eight draw controls to go along with four groundballs.

Sophomore Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal for Mount Saint Vincent after making 10 saves. She also picked up two groundballs and caused a turnover for the Dolphins. Colleen Fitzsimons earned the win and stopped six Mount Saint Vincent shots.

Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 6-9 overall on the season and to 4-6 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will close out the regular season on Sunday when they play host to USMMA. Opening Draw at Columbia's Baker Athletic Complex is set for 4:00 p.m.
