Hood Hammered by Visiting Lycoming on Senior Day

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood (3-10, 0-6 Commonwealth) dropped a 14-2 Commonwealth Conference decision to the Lycoming Warriors (4-10, 1-5 Commonwealth) Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

Brigid Ayer netted both of Hood's goals, the first with 3:04 to play in the first half and the second on a free-position shot with 7:14 to go in the second half to bring her total on the season to 18.

Lauren Couch had a solid day in the cage, stopping 19 shots, corralling 13 ground balls and making four interceptions. Megan Feldtmose won three draws and Ayer and Kimi Brunot controlled one apiece. Danielle Roberts finished with a pair of caused turnovers while Carissa Ferguson and Brunot had one apiece.

Lycoming scored eight goals in the first half and six in the second. Brooke Strausser led the way with four scores while nine other Warriors collected at least one goal.

The Blazers also recognized seniors Brunot, Amalia Franzese, Caitlin Lawrence and Miriah Stone prior to the contest.

Hood has two Commonwealth games left on the 2013 schedule. The Blazers host Stevenson University Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and travel to Widener University Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. draw.

FREDERICK, Md. Freshman Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) posted two goals and three assists and senior Brooke Strausser (Myerstown, Pa./Conrad Weiser Area) added four goals to lead Lycoming to a 14-2 Commonwealth Conference win over Hood on Saturday, April 20 at the Thomas Athletic Field.

The Warriors (4-9 overall, 1-5 Commonwealth) jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first 26 minutes of the first half, as Seitzinger led the run with a goal and two assists while Strausser also added two goals.

Hood's Brigid Ayer got the Blazers (3-11 overall, 0-6 Commonwealth) on the board with 3:04 left, but Lycoming answered back just 22 seconds later when freshman Erica Spero (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) dented the twine for the first time in her career. Seitzinger added a goal with 31 seconds left in the half to give Lycoming an 8-1 lead at the break.

The Warriors continued to dominate in the second half, with Strauser scoring twice during a run of five straight goals that gave the Warriors a 13-1 lead with 11:46 left. Hood scored once more before senior defender Hope Pappas (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) rounded out the scoring with 2:28 left.

Lycoming dominated the statistics, holding a 47-7 advantage in shots, 34-20 in ground balls and 13-5 in draw controls.

Strausser also finished with team highs of five ground balls and nine draw controls and Seitzinger posted four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior Amber Graybill (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) notched a goal and three assists and sophomore Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) posted a goal and two assists. The goal for Maguire was the 50th of her career. Junior Maureen Heagy (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) added a goal and an assist and freshman Kelsey Harshman (Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert) also contributed her first career goal.

Defensively, the Warriors were led by senior Lindsay Schilling (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll), who posted five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Reitnouer (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) finished with four saves to earn the win.

Ayer led the Blazers with two goals. Goalkeeper Lauren Couch led the team with 13 ground balls and four caused turnovers. She also made 19 saves in net.

The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, April 23, when they head to Lebanon Valley for a 5:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
