Campbell Falls in Overtime to Coastal Carolina

BUIES CREEK, N.C. In its final game of the inaugural season, Campbell fell to Coastal Carolina 13-12 in the team's first overtime match of the season as the Chanticleers finished the game on a 4-0 run. The Camels ended the season 6-7, going 1-6 in the Big South.

Throughout the first half, the teams traded the lead, which never exceeded two goals for either side. Defender Lauren Kuklenski topped off a 3-0 Campbell run in the 19th minute to put the Camels ahead 6-5 with her first goal of her career on her senior day.

At the halftime break, the score was knotted up at seven, with each goalkeeper stopping four shots.

Six minutes after the break, junior Taelar Errington kicked off a 4-0 Campbell run off an assist from freshman Loren Day. Day, along with classmates Kaki Armiger and Sierra Fox, brought the Campbell lead to three, the largest of the game for either team, in a 13-minute span.

However, Campbell failed to seal the win as Coastal's Paige Timberg scored three-straight times, twice on free position attempts, to tie the score at 12. Her third tally in the run came with less than a minute to go as Kimmy Delongue dished her a pass in front of the CU goal.

The game went into two-three minute overtime periods at the conclusion of regulation. After the score held for the first period, Chanticleer Charlotte O'Leary put a shot past CU goalkeeper Brittany Kincer to clinch the 13-12 win.

Day led the Camels with four goals and two assists. Along with Fox and Kuklenski's scores, Armiger added two, junior Cloey Henchcliffe notched one, and Errington finished with three.

Day led all Camels on the year in scoring (35), assists (13), and points (48).

Kincer finished the day with 12 saves on 25 CCU shots. On the season, she saved 129 shots and owns a 44.3 save percentage and 12.40 goals-against average.

The Camels scored 144 goals on 47 assists in their inaugural season, averaging 11.08 goals per game. Defensively, CU picked up 196 ground balls and caused 73 turnovers.
