Holy Family Wins CACC Clash at Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. - Holy Family wrapped up the regular season with a 12-10 victory at Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon at the Dominican Lacrosse Field.

Holy Family, winners of four straight games, improves to 11-5 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Dominican falls to 7-6 overall and wraps up conference action at 7-3. Both teams have clinched a spot in next weekends CACC Tournament and could face one another in the semifinals pending the result of tomorrow's Georgian Court University/Philadelphia University match-up.

Senior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and sophomore Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) combined for seven goals to lead the Holy Family offense. Lancetta finished with a game-high four goals to go along with three ground balls and four draw controls. McNesby recorded three scores on the afternoon.

Senior Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) and junior Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) each scored a pair of goals for the Tigers. Senior Jessica Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tallied three ground balls and caused a turnover on the defensive end, while junior Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) led the team with two caused turnovers.

For Dominican, sophomore Gina Sparaco led the Chargers with three goals, while sophomore Allison Smithwick tallied two goals. Freshman Christina Brennan led the team with four ground balls to go along with a goal and a caused turnover.

Holy Family scored five of the last six goals in the final 11:51 of the first half to take its biggest lead of the game into the half. Leading 5-4 midway through the half, the Tigers scored back-to-back goals by LaRose (11:51) and McNesby (9:58) to take a 7-4 advantage.

After a score by junior Brianna Blank at the 8:52 mark made the score 7-5, Holy Family closed out the half with three straight scores to take a 10-5 into halftime. McNesby capped the scoring with a free position goal with 2:09 left to play in the half. It marked McNesby's third score of the game.

In the second half, Dominican outscored Holy Family by a 5-2 margin to come within two goals of the Tigers lead. The Chargers used a 4-1 run over a 12-plus minute span to make the score 12-10. Sophomore Gina Sparaco capped the scoring with a goal with 10:02 to play in regulation.

However, that would be the game's final score as the Tigers went on to hold on to the two-goal victory.

Freshman Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made 11 saves in goal for the Tigers after facing 27 shots. Dominican goalkeeper, freshman Brittany Kierman, made 11 stops off 29 shots by Holy Family.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, April 27 as the Tigers will face either Dominican or Georgian Court in the CACC Semifinals. Tournament pairings and game times will be announcement by the conference office at the conclusion of the regular season schedule.
