St. Andrews Wins Consolation Match at NWLL Tourney

Belleville, IL- St. Andrews was able to win their first consolation game Friday afternoon as they used six goals from junior midfielder Arianna Vicari to top Emmanuel College, Ga. (2-11) 14-9. However, the Lady Knights would then fall in the fifth place match-up with conference rival Tennessee Wesleyan 15-5 to finish in 6th place in their first year competing in the NAIA.

Lady Knight junior Jackie Jones added 3 goals in the first half while Vicari also collected 6 ground balls in the first half leading SAU to a 10-5 halftime edge after jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead through the first 13 minutes.

The Knights and Emmanuel tied 4-4 in the second half on goals from Jones and junior Catherine Lovallo while the Knights outshot the Lions 19-10 in the second half and 41-28 overall. St. Andrews also collected 50 ground balls total, 12 more than Emmanuel while turning the ball over 9 less times.

Jones finished the game with 5 goals while Lovallo added 3. Vicari led with 6 goals and 12 ground balls while Lovallo collected 9 and Jones had 7.

Senior GK Meghan Powell recorded 18 saves for St. Andrews as well.

The Lady Knights (10-10) finished their first season in the NAIA with the 10 goal loss to TWC (7-9) on Saturday. SCAD, Ga. (13-2) and Indiana Tech (14-2) will play Saturday night for the NAIA championship. The All-Tournament team will be announced later tonight as well.
