Cyclones Dropped by Gators in Regular Season Finale

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 20, 2013) The Centenary College Cyclones suffered a tough defeat today at the hands of Notre Dame of Maryland University, by the final score of 15-4.

Following a Gators goal just five seconds into the game, the Cyclones evened the score with a Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, Cinnaminson High School) goal just 40 seconds later to knot the game at one apiece not a minute into the game. However, Sutko's goal would be the only one the Cyclones would score in the opening half, as NDMU's Alli Terry scored five of the team's next six goals to take a 7-1 lead into the half.

Coming out of half time the Cyclones wasted little time attempting a comeback, as Alysia Pinkerton (Frenchtown, NJ, Delaware Valley Regional) ripped an unassisted goal past the Gators goal keeper to make the score 7-2 with 28:42 remaining in the game. However, just as they did in the first half, the Gators would go on a run and score the next five goals to essentially put the game out of reach at 12-2.

Centenary College did continue to fight however, as Sutko connected with both Allie Swartz (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) and Arden Wright (Coatesville,PA, Coatesville) for goals, with the latter coming at the 21:09 mark. Never the less it would not be enough, as Terry scored her ninth goal of the game and the Gators proceeded to play keep away for the remainder of the time to pick up the 15-4 victory.

With the loss in their last regular season game, the Cyclones drop to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference. If the season ended today the Cyclones would make the CSAC tournament with the sixth seed, however, nothing is guaranteed as there are seven days until the start of the tournament and rival Gwynedd-Mercy is only one game behind them in the conference.
