Mercy Wins ECC Clash with Roberts Wesleyan

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 20, 2013) - Mercy defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 10-7, in East Coast Conference action at Mavericks Field. With the victory, the Mavericks improved to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the league. Following the loss, the Redhawks slipped to 4-10 and 0-5 in the ECC.

Over the first two quarters of the game, Mercy posted a 5-2 lead.

To open the third quarter, the Mavericks scored three straight goals to take an 8-3 lead. Two markers from the Redhawks cut their deficit to 8-5.

Roberts Wesleyan scored three goals to Mercy's two in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Mavericks took home their eighth win of the year.

In all, senior Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) had two goals and one assist, while senior Joe Poppe (Elbridge, N.Y.) scored twice. Sophomore Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) recorded one goal and two assists. In the cage, freshman A.J. Pellati (West Islip, N.Y.) made six saves.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday when they take on Saint Anselm College at 4:00 p.m.
