Defiance Lacrosse Drops Home Finale to Carthage

DEFIANCE, Ohio The Yellow Jackets played their final home game of the inaugural season on the turf of Justin F. Coressel Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as Defiance was defeated by Midwest Lacrosse Conference powerhouse Carthage by a final of 28-1.

Carthage scored early and often in the opening quarter, as the visitors struck for nine goals in the first 15 minutes to open up a 9-0 lead after the first.

The Purple and Gold was able to score the first goal of the second stanza off Jesse Bailey's team-leading 13th goal of the season to bring the score to 9-1.

After the DC goal, the Red Men found the back of the net eight times in the second quarter to take a commanding 17-1 lead into the half.

Carthage came out of the break to score 11 more times in the remainder of the game to leave Defiance with a 28-1 conference victory.

Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Chris Smith made 31 saves in the game. The freshman goalie leads the MLC in saves with an average of 18.4 per contest.

DC travels to Elmhurst College for its next game, as the Jackets take on the Blue Jays at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
