Ruane Reaches 200 Goals as Shepherd Holds off Chestnut Hill

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. Senior midfielder Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) scored five goals and added an assist to lead Shepherd to a 16-13 win over Chestnut Hill on Senior Day at Ram Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Ruane completes her career with 202 goals.

Sophomore attacker/midfielder Kelsey Eagan (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) tallied three goals and an assist, while freshman attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) had two goals and two assists.

Sophomore attacker Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) recorded two goals and two assists, while freshman midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) had a pair of goals.

Senior midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) and junior midfielder Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) each added a goal. Junior attacker Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) contributed an assist.

Emorie Keimig had four goals while Lindsey Alexander and Erica Eaby each had two goals and an assist to lead Chestnut Hill.

Sophomore netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded 11 saves for the Rams, while Danielle Owen (2) and Jennifer Delahanty (8) combined for 10 saves for the Griffins.

The Rams opened the game on a 6-1 run and had an 11-5 advantage at halftime. Chestnut Hill used a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 14-11, but would get no closer. Keimig had two goals during the run.

Shepherd held a 29-28 edge in shots and a 32-26 advantage in ground balls. Chestnut Hill had a 21-10 edge in draw controls. Shepherd completes its season at 10-6, while Chestnut Hill falls to 3-12.

Notes: Shepherd's 10 wins are one shy of the season record set in 2012. Ruane, Tippett, and Alexandra Coates were honored before the game as part of Senior Day activities. Ruane completes her career as the program's all-time lead in goals (202), points (266), ground balls (148), draw controls (178), and caused turnovers (90).
