Hawks Edge Huntingdon to End Season on High Note

Montgomery, Ala.-The Hawks ended the 2013 season a high note Saturday afternoon; topping Huntingdon, 10-9, and extending its win streak to five games. The win improves Shorter to 7-7 on the season, while Huntingdon falls to 7-8 overall.

Matt Kristiansen led the attack for the Hawks, scoring three times; Benjamin Janes and James VandenBrink each netted two goals in the win.

Shorter went up 2-1 in the first period, as both Kristiansen brothers found the back of the net for the Hawks. In the second quarter, Shorter added four goals, while Huntingdon scored five times, to take the game into half time tied at 6-6.

The game was once again tied after the third frame as each team added two goals. In the final period, Shorter scored two goals quickly; the first with 13:12 to play from VandenBrink, and the second with 12:23 to play from Janes. With the Hawks up 10-8, Shorter's defense made the most of the final period, holding Huntingdon scoreless until 2:53 in the game as Jakob Works scored the final goal, to make the score 10-9.

The Hawks' goalie J.R. Willers made eleven saves on the day; while facing thirty-nine shots.

Shorter went 25-26 in clear attempts, as well as winning thirteen of the twenty-two face offs, and collecting forty-one groundballs.
