No. 5 Adelphi Sprints Past the Greyhounds

Garden City, N.Y. No. 5 Adelphi hosted Assumption in a Northeast-10 contest. After a dominating first half that saw 14 goals, the Panthers came away with a 19-4 victory. Adelphi advances to 14-1, 10-1 NE-10, while the Greyhounds drop to 9-8, 5-7 NE-10.

For the Panthers, freshman Rachel O'Brien was the game's high point earner with seven points on six goals and one assist. Danielle Jaycox (2g, 3a), Alexa Froccaro (4g), Devan Crimi (3g) and Emily Keesling (1g, 1a) all registered multiple point games while three others were credited with one point.

Jacqueline Williams took a game high six draw controls while goalkeeper Jordann Dempsey picked up her 12th win of the season after logging 25:45 minutes in net and allowing just two goals. Taylor Hayes and Taylor Langston split the remaining time to allow a combined two goals.

For the Greyhounds, Lindsay Hagerman, Camille Auger, Steph O'Rourke and Meg Curley all notched one goal while Kate Graydon had the team's only assist. Michelle Monahan suffered the loss after allowing 16 goals in 38:38 while Maggie Rooney allowed the other three.

The Panthers held the visitors to just four shots in the first and 14 overall while taking 28 of their own. Additionally, the scooped up six more ground balls, gained three more draw controls, and caused 21 turnovers while committing just 14 themselves.

Adelphi unleashed a crippling 9-0 run which was part of a 14-goal opening half as O'Brien accounted for five of them. Froccaro, Jaycox and Crimi combined for six of the 14 goals while three others found the back of the net once.

Assumption's Curley and Auger combined to put two hash marks in the goal column for the Greyhounds in the first, but it's as close as they would get after 30 minutes of play as the score read 14-2.

The Brown and Gold continued their offensive attack in the second, wasting no time as Froccaro once again scored less than 30 seconds into the half for her third of the game. After Lauren Janelli's free position goal at the 16:38 mark, Adelphi held an insurmountable 19-2 lead.

O'Rourke and Hagerman found the back of the net one time each to close out the game as time expired with the scoreboard showing 19-4 in favor of the hosts.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow at 7:00 pm when they host #15 Lindenwood University in a non-conference match-up on Motamed Field.
