Video: Gilman School Defeats Calvert Hall in MIAA Action

Gilman used a big second half behind a dominant defense that set the pace in defeating visiting Calvert Hall, 12-8 on Tuesday. Gilman goaltender Thomas McBride was not called on nearly as often as he was in the team's previous game against Boys' Latin. The defensive minded Greyhounds, coached by former UNC national champion Brooks Mathews as well as former Princeton national champion Damian Davis, played extremely sound. Brendan Barger, Garrett Pfiefer, Jack Halpert, and Chase "Soup" Campbell proved to be efficient learners, as they pressured the Calvert Hall offense quite appropriately all afternoon.

Calvert Hall was led offensively by the trio of Stephen "Bones" Kelly, Johnny Kelly, and Timmy Kelly. Garrett Epple, Tyler Mayes, and Erik Evans were focused as the leaders of the Cardinal defensive unit, but the attack of Tyler Ruhl, Max Greene, and Zeke Morrill proved to be too much for the well-prepared CHC defense. Freshman goaltender Joe McSorely held up well in the cage for Cavert Hall, but the Gilman middies like Riley DeSmit, John Simms, Peter Brown, and Will McBride were just too much between the lines. The offensive coach for the Hounds, Owen Daly, had the man-up clicking as well as their 6-on-6 sets.
